"People who are generally agreed to be stunningly beautiful do not often date people who are generally agreed to be stunningly plain ". Is this statement true or are people usually deeper than that?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Are we told by the media and our peers what is beautiful? If we are persuaded by the opinions of others in regards to what true beauty means, then how do we determine what we really think about the beautiful?
